Hospitality chain Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is bringing a convenient checkout option for Chinese travelers to one of its Hong Kong locations.
The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong has integrated Alipay and WeChat Pay in addition to Apple Pay into its accommodations such as its spa, bars and restaurants. The two new systems help cater to its home location, as Alipay and WeChat Pay are the most popular payment sources in China.
Paying for travel
Guests at Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong will be able to seamlessly purchase food, beverages, spa treatments and stays by just scanning their mobile phones, as mobile pay becomes more popular.
“The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong has always been a pioneer of new solutions and this allows seamless, quick and secure payment to delight and satisfy our guests,” said Archie Keswick, general manager of The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, in a statement. “These frictionless payment systems already have over 1 billion active consumers, but until now they have not been widely available in Hong Kong’s luxury hotels.”
A new water filtration initiative from Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong is also the latest in a wave of sustainability efforts from premium hotel brands.
Mandarin Oriental announced that its Hong Kong hotel will no longer serve water in plastic bottles, instead offering reusable glass bottles with water filtered on site. With this plastic bottle ban, along with the popular push to reduce the use of plastic straws, hotel brands around the world are looking to minimize their plastic waste (see story).
These new pushes are ways that Mandarin Oriental keeps this key location modern and the peak of luxury travel.
