The Lunar New Year has come and gone, and Chinese-Australian artist Guan Wei is celebrating with a witty new work. Showcased at the Birkenhead Point outlet center, in Sydney, Australia, the playful installation — a giant 22-meter-long mural — features a flying pig symbolically soaring from China to Australia as the central theme, as well as eight chubby babies holding traditional Chinese knots and firecrackers sprinkled throughout. According to Wei, who lists “wit, knowledge, and humor” as the three key elements of his art, the images represent hope, luck, blessings and all-around positive vibes — a perfect welcome to the Year of the Pig! Formally launched on February 9th with a live signing, the bespoke piece will remain in store (Level 3) until June.
