As a result of a five-year cultural exchange agreement between the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) and the National Museum of China to celebrate 40 years of formal diplomatic relations between the United States and China, the two institutions will debut Jean Schlumberger: Twentieth Century Treasures from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Beijing. The jewelry design exhibition features more than 100 unique pieces of visually striking jewelry and accessories designed by mid-20th century artist-jeweler, Jean Schlumberger. The NMC will also display several ancient Chinese ornamental pieces from its collection to enrich the audience’s understanding of aesthetic similarities and differences between East and West.
